The Best of ADD
May 29th, 2005 by admin | Filed under Uncategorized. Many people with ADD have very low self-esteem. Much of it stems from experiences we had as children. Maybe kids made fun of you or your teachers may have been pulling their hair out, trying to get you to just sit down. But even if your school experience was good, you undoubtedly ran into ADD obstacles along the way. Kids with parents who understood the challenges you faced went a long way in providing the self esteem you needed to mature. But if you’re still dealing with bad feelings from the past, you need to realize that your ADD also makes you great.
These are some reasons:
You can be impulsive at times, and this gives you the ability to live fully. You’re all about the “moment,” and you don’t stop to consider why something can’t be done, you just go and do it. People who stop to consider the implications may never fulfill their dreams.Your hyperactivity makes you energetic. After all the life has gone out of the party, you’re still going.Daydreaming is good for creative endeavors. Without it, Einstein may never have come up with the theory of relativity. And yes, he was ADD.Distractability means that you notice everything, and because you see things that other people don’t, you might be a good journalist or painter. Both of these professions require attention to detail.Forgetfulness is something common to a lot of people, and not all of them have ADD. If you forget easily, you may be able to get over things faster and stop worrying about what you did or didn’t do.Losing things means that you aren’t a materialist. Good for you! In modern society this is a great quality. You tune out. Great. You don’t have to put up with boring or annoying people.Talking too much means you have a passion for your subject. This could also mean that you’d be a good teacher. You interrupt because you’re so anxious to share the great idea you just came up with. Some people are too ashamed to interrupt and then, lose the idea completely. Sometimes, it’s OK to interrupt, especially when he conversation is unimportant. It may not be polite, but it may be expedient.Unrealistic thought makes you unique. You have an interesting view of how things work.
There are other qualities associated with ADD that I won’t mention here, but you get the idea. What may be considered negative in a social light doesn’t mean that they aren’t still great qualities. How far might I have gotten if I hadn’t come up with an impossible project that worked?
An entrepreneurial career solves most of the social issues you face with ADD. You make the rules because you’re the boss. Impulsivity works because you don’t have to wait for someone else’s approval before trying something. And there are only routines that you set yourself, so boredom doesn’t come into play. Having AD/HD can actually help you in an entrepreneurial business.
Re-assess the ADD qualities within yourself and make them work to your best advantage. Boost your own self-esteem by doing so because having AD/HD isn’t all bad. When you sit down to actually think about it, you’ll find that you’re really pretty awesome.
