Mangosteen’s X factor
July 17th, 2005 by admin | Filed under Uncategorized. The mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) is a tropical evergreen tree, believed to have originated in the Sunda Islands and the Moluccas. The tree grows from 7 to 25 meters tall. The rind of the edible fruit is deep reddish purple when ripe. The fragrant flesh is sweet and creamy, citrusy with a touch of peach flavor. In Asia, the mangosteen fruit is known as the “Queen of Fruits.” It is closely related to other edible tropical fruits such as button mangosteen and lemondrop mangosteen.
Many people describe Mangosteen, a remarkably delicious fruit, as the most luscious fruit in the world. Mangosteen contains xanthones, which occur naturally in various organic compounds. Xanthones are extracted from the rind, or the pericarp. Xanthones are considered to have antioxidant properties that help to protect the body from the harm associated with free radicals. In TriFusion Plus, we’ve added an additional 20 percent pericarp to enhance the antioxidant benefits in every serving.
Mangosteen fruit contains mangostinone, tannins, and epicatechin, an important bioflavonoid. Epicatechin may improve dilation of blood vessels, circulation, and blood flow, and has been used to support heart health. Mangosteen pulp also contains vitamins and minerals, including calcium, phosphorus, iron, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, and vitamin C.
Mangosteen has been reported to help address the following health challenges:
