In Case of a Cold or the Flu
August 18th, 2005 by admin | Filed under Uncategorized.I was talking to my dad the other day.
We talk more regularly now that I’m getting older.
Funny how we become more like friends with our parents later in life isn’t it?
Anyway, he mentioned that he had recently had his “flu shots” for the winter season and that a few days later he got quite sick.
“Great” was my response – “you’re still vital – you are able to throw off the poisons that were injected into you.”
“Strewth” he said, “do you know, when I was a young lad I can remember having colds accompanied by fevers and sweating. I’d be in bed with my feet sticking out of the covers and my mother would stick them back in and put socks on me – but I haven’t had a cold in a long time now.”
There’s a lot of truth in this short conversation.
In our youth we have frequent colds – which are in fact nothing more than the body’s effort to throw off waste matter that has accumulated to the point of intoxication.
A few generations ago – before the pharmaceutical world started to beat the band-wagon about their products - colds were dealt with in a very simple manner.
At the first sign of a sniffle, a sneeze, a headache, achy joints – we would be hustled off to bed – kept warm and fed copious amounts of liquids.
Invariably, we would sleep, wake, drink fluids, fall back to sleep - and within a couple of days we would be clamouring to get up, eat and go out to play/school/work.
Unfortunately to-day, the old ways have almost disappeared.
Mom and dad’s sage advice has been relegated to the dusty shelves of ‘common sense’ and replaced by the medicine man’s ‘magic pill.’
Don’t be afraid of the common cold – it’s the first line of defence in the body’s healing process.
Listen to the ‘Voice of the Organism’ – It will tell you what’s right.
And if you can’t hear yourself think – go ask ask your grandma what to do – she’ll know!
