The DeMartini Method
June 10th, 2007 by admin | Filed under Uncategorized.Questions for Dr. DeMartini in an interview with Rheba Estante
Q: How did you design the DeMartini Method?
A: I started at 18 studying atomic physics, chemistry and astronomy which prompted my desire to integrate science and religion. As my studies progressed the subjects began to encompass an exploration of psychology and philosophy. I wanted to discover whether I could maximize human potential and awareness through an actual method. When I went into chiropractic I used my integrated approach to healing. Before entering chiropractic I was in pre-med and the precursors to the DeMartini Method were emerging from the start. I learned that there were 18 particles and antiparticles to make light. It dawned on me that positive and negative emotions create enlightenment. That was the beginning of my intention to formulate clinically the basis of the method 20 years ago, which I later composed and taught people how to utilize.
Q: You have an interesting childhood background. The teachers and doctors almost wrote you off. How did you turn out otherwise?
A: Yes, I was told I would never amount to anything. I dropped out of school at 14 and was an aimless street kid for a while. Then I met a teacher at 17 in Hawaii on North Shore in a yoga class. He believed I could do it. This opportunity to meet a 93-year-old philosopher had me have an epiphany that turned my life around. At 18 I moved back to Texas and lived for 18 months with parents who were happy I was back at school after getting my GED and becoming a top student.
The street years were 13 to 18 and I was in Texas, Mexico, California, hitchhiked across America, and then got to Hawaii. I never focused on that drifter experience. I was into surfing and made my way to Hawaii. I had a goal to surf and my epiphany at 17 to be a teacher. I had such a desire to be a teacher and with that energy nothing stopped me.
Q: How do you explain your triumph over the label “learning disabled” and what do you want to say to parents who have a young child being labeled this way? Can you share the key milestones from the boy who was written off by teachers to the man you are today who travels the world spreading a positive message for many people? What key quality in you do you believe caused you to prove them wrong the world over?
A: Meeting the teacher was so huge. He almost died at 17 and dedicated his life to wisdom. He was a major catalyst. I’d also met a bum in El Paso, Texas who told me to learn and love wisdom. It all took root at 17. At 18 I failed first college test after GED, I had a determination, I wasn’t letting anything stop me. I became a voracious student learning anything I could. I’d devour anything 3 to 20 hours a day.
Q: Did you ever think you’d be doing this?
A: I just assumed I would be a surfer. I rode the biggest waves in the world. Whatever I really set my mind to I found a way to do it.
Q: What is the basic premise of this methodology and how would you describe it if you had to create a curriculum for a course on it for Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry?
A: Gratitude. Whatever you think about you bring it about. When you set your intention you start noticing opportunities. If you have a big enough motivation you would do something. The DeMartini Method helps shift the focus to one of gratitude in order to set intentions for a happier experience. There is physical and unphysical reality and a domino effect starts with a change in perception. William James stated that you alter life by changing your mind. The body is changed by the mind, the mind is changed by the spirit, and then amazing things happen.
I have already training method for psychologists which is an actual curriculum. Training professionals in the DeMartini method is a project that is already in motion. It is a structured format. The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) in Canada has a psychology professor who is teaching it. A school in Venezuela and two schools in Spain are implementing it.
The DeMartini method takes a certain route of retraining perception. A fundamental change in cognitive behavior is based on a series of questions. Questions generate the quality of life. Events in life and questions around them can bring balance. The method challenges someone to see what they have lost and what they have gained in the same life event. Then the DeMartini questions lead the patient’s mind to see the benefits. This leads to poise and equilibrium that balances perception in a way that is aligned with the person’s strongest values. There are a series of 40 questions on stressful angles. When we can bring a perception back into balance with core values there is gratitude and love.
I have worked with people who have experienced traumatic events that nearly destroyed them. I work with people from all walks of life. One woman I worked on survived the Tsunami. We met privately for three hours and 20 minutes to resolve the deaths of her husband, son, and two friends. I’ve used the DeMartini Method to deal with death, incest, dismemberment, all things that people face. The healing begins when we face how we function, perceive, and take command of our thoughts by discovering he hidden order of what governs our debilitating perceptions.
Q: How do you explain staying stuck?
A: When a person is rigid in perceptions and can’t see a balance with their values and events they tend to stay stuck in an emotional state. Each person has a hierarchy of values. When their top values are highly challenged they will see more negatives and be blind to the positive. Extreme infatuation is blind to negative. Both ways are polarized and it is hard for the mind to see other side. The DeMartini method links the other side to the values because polarized emotions can’t see the gift in the situation. I stay with the client until they get it.
Q: What are the statistic results of the DeMartini Method? Have you measured the quantitative benefits of those individuals who have gone through the method and if so, what are some specific measurable results in their lives of noticeable improvement?
A: I haven’t done a Ph.D. thesis. I am too busy sharing it. Numbers are growing. Something IS clinically going on. Not that I couldn’t quantify results but it hasn’t been my focus. No one argues when they experience the benefits. I don’t need to prove it. Skeptics can do that. To those who believe no proof is necessary. People who are receptive are receptive. There are still people into the big bang theory because of an old belief system.
Q: Which Universities have studied your method and what are the academic findings so far?
A: psychology professor by the name of Ken Peirce at UPEI has been teaching a very popular course on the DeMartini Method for four years now.
Q: Why does the DeMartini Method work? What is the unique “healing agent” of it?
A: Gratitude and love heal and helps the immune system. It is the paradigm the method is coming from. Some clients are depressed but there is no medical evidence for it. Why? It looks like depression. They are in a fantasy of a life compared to something that seems better. What they are really comparing their life to is a false reality. Inside their psyche there is a fantasy and a nightmare. I don’t buy the label depression. Just disowned parts in perception and an addiction to fantasy. What are you comparing your life too? When a person finds the answer depression will solve itself. I do not label people. The method’s premise is that we all have magnificence and genius.
I have yet to see someone not benefit unless under extreme medicine. Many are stuck on meds because of a culture of drugs as an escape. People are used to taking a pill for every ill. It is a way of disassociating using a non-accountable method. I teach people how to do it on their own. The DeMartini Method is a perceptual dynamic between the questions and the client.
Q: How would you describe addiction?
A: I take a modified approach when working with an addict. It is very step-by-step so I can identify what the addiction is about. We come in from the angle: what are the benefits you are getting? This brings the unconscious to conscious when the benefits of the addiction are revealed. Then the client usually has tears. They are thankful to get a strategy too get what they want without shame, guilt, and blame. Now they can come up with alternative. For every benefit of the addiction we come up with five alternative ways, and link to highest values. We diversify opportunities around the search for other behaviors to moderate and eventually eliminate addictive activity. No label, no diagnosis, just re-training.
Q: What are Shame attacks?
A: Any addiction is a sub-diction. It is a way to avoid yourself and something around you. Shame is the common trigger. Anytime that you are doing something socially unacceptable is a shame and blame cycle. I help dissolve that by helping them see they are worthy of love. This serves them and others. It is a clean and balance approach that fosters self-love and clears out emotional baggage. Addiction and sub-addiction is also driven by misperceptions. The method re-frames what you perceive instead blame. Your mind can make your life hell depending on your value systems. Heaven is when your values support your system of operating. All life events are neutral until you re-evaluated them.
Q: What motivated you to bring this healing modality to the world?
A: When I came across James Newman (mathematician) on sacred geometry and Greek proportions calculated to inspire awe. It is the architectural. I wanted to induce the same state of awe with perceptions. I am certain you can induce a mystical and religious people in ratio by perceptions – a “state of grace”. During a DeMartini seminar, breakthrough experiences don’t stop until every body experiences that state, learn to access it anytime in their life, and they are grateful. I remember meeting a teacher in their early 20’s who had 6 Ph’ds by 35. His work was on the hidden Order of Perfection, which made me explore themerodynamics, that also lead me to also a lot of systems that are used during a process.
Q: What do you think of Interventions like on that A&E Reality Show?
A: If you don’t have power people overpower you. People who are so down and out need multiple intervention. I am about re-empowering people to pick themselves up.
Q: How about enablers?
A: There are two sides of the coin. Hidden benefits of importance and seeking parental figures. It is a dynamic where there is no growth. Both enabler and addict Stop and stagnate. You don’t do anything with anyone who is not asking. If they are interfering with others then intervene. Let them hit bottom then that’s fine. If they would like to breakthrough I have some tools.
Q: Why are some afraid of really owning their power?
A: There are 7 basic fears: breaking ethics, breaking spiritual authority, not being smart/savvy enough, fear of failure, money and financial doom, losing loved ones, fear of rejection from authority and society, fear of ill health death and disease. Fear will immobilize. The fear of change overrides fear of where they are. What is your dominant motive is finding out the main fear holding you back.
Q: Do you think your method could help “ADHD” children and their parents from a lifetime of limiting labels?
A: When I was in first grade I was diagnosed as dyslexic learning disable. When you don’t know the cause of behavior they put a label on it. Not a common thing to study. I’m certain that it can help them because it neuro integrates how the brain works. Educators are very interested in how brain works in terms of perception and neurochemistry. I was asked by the South Africa Board of Education to design a pilot for their education system.
Any area of culture that is not educated is vulnerable to that type of “pill” thinking. Lots of people are on prescription drugs. Parents are told that their kid has this and that. There are true cases of kids who are injured while others are simply in need of proper counseling. Labels are a marketing tool. It is ignorance from society. We need to educate from all options and utilize power of mind. Major industries grab hold of labels to push their products on as many people. ADHD kids can do video games for 6 years. They are unfocused but a highly concentrated system and video game is supporting their kind of attention.
Q: Do you have any plans to come to Canada to speak about the method?
A: I will be doing a seminar in Toronto. Keep checking my website for a schedule.
Q: Do you get called another Werner Erhardt?
A: I’m impacting people the way people the way he did. I have 57 courses, more comprehensive, has some overlapping principles. I am exploring potentials. He had a desire to serve. I am certain to do what he did he had to have a motive or intention. He wasn’t the most savvy business person who push buttons. Greatest minds in history push buttons. New paradigm. Ridicule and imprisoned. I wouldn’t hold that against Werner. He was a renegade who challenged people and went through trials and tribulations. I plan to bring the DeMartini method to children’s programs, teach a million students in South Africa, a value determining process, breakthrough program, young people and teenagers pilots, etc.
Q: How can you educate an entire society?
A: I am not stopping till I touch 3 billion people. Every vehicle I find and discover I’ll use. I better expand. It takes effort. Never underestimate the power of small group of people to change history. Only belief systems are stopping us. You can argue over theories but results are results. There is always room for improvement if one is willing to refine. There is no end to it. Theories are constantly refined and reworded. I want to get better at understanding people and how to better apply it. As soon as you are green you are growing. I am constantly growing.
Q: Who are your current teachers and source refinement?
A: New clinical applications emerge when I work with people. I ask new questions. Books, internets, specialists, all come up with a way that those things are working. Whatever it takes to come up with a model. No model that is set. Never are done. Keep working on it.
Q: Are you doing your vocation? Do you feel something else is working through you?
A: When I am in the zone there is a larger matrix of intelligence that is guiding you. Like a book writing itself. Higher intuitive connective to higher consciousness permeating the Universe.
Q: You don’t think anyone who is hopeless?
A: Some people exceed my questioning at that moment. The level of my knowledge has been exceed. So I expand knowledge. Pollution eventually is a resource once we know what to do with it. I can do things now that I couldn’t 10 years ago.
Q: Are you a Workaholics?
A: It’s Inspiration. I love what I am doing, It is my mission. What is the distinction? It is a label. Labels are a by-product whose values are challenged. When health professionals are challenged they come up with a label. I believe what people call alcoholism. A lady had an injury and she has been drinking every day for 15 years. The injury shocked the hell out of her. Hasn’t drank since then. Won’t go back. If there is a deep unconscious motive they continue. If not, they shift.
Not an “aholicsm - it’s a highly condensed strategize value system. I help diversify it. Disease is incorrect. Incompetence in knowing what strategies to help integrate their lives. Everything is based on what you have associated it with. Nothing is set. Break fantasy and stacked up benefits of new ways of being. Addictions are seeing pleasure without the pain it costs.
I never see gain and loss and only see transformation to break the idea of loss. A human being that can adapt anywhere is truly free. Turning it into an opportunity. Universe is neutral until we label it.
Q: How does someone do the DeMartini method on themselves?
A: Learn the questions. What is it that pushes buttons about that person? Who is it that you see when you recognize that trait? Keep doing this until you own that trait as much. How does their behavior serve me? How can you perceive it so it doesn’t run life. I have no desire to change, just to see magnificence? How has me doing that reaction served them? This dissolves guilt. Can you change the form of the trait in you? Where does this person have the opposite for that trait? This breaks the label. At the very moment they were doing that action who was doing the opposite. Love is the synthesis of opposite. If they had not bee n that way what are the drawback? This breaks the fantasy. Negative trait is the fantasy of the opposite. Stop and look at how the positive can be a drawback. Keep looking and dig until you find the answer. I can’t means I don’t have the motivation to look. Link it to your high core values. No one leaves the breakthrough until they find it.
Q: How does one enroll in the actual DeMartini seminar?
A: Get on the internet and they register. Price depends on the city and country. $800 to $1000 per weekend.
Q: What is your big message?
A: We live in a magnificent universe and we have tremendous power inside. Learn to perceive and act in life. You can go as far as you want to go in life. I have seen both worlds. I know it is possible. Power is in non-dependency.
