Well, yeast infections or Candidia albicans being the most common occurs in warm, moist body areas. Most common areas affected are the underarms, under dentures, the abdomen and under breasts and nail beds. These are all what are called superficial and will clear up easily with treatment.
There are other yeast infections as well; vaginal, thrush or mouth infections, diaper rash. A recurring yeast infection could very well be the sign of other more severe diseases like leukemia, AIDS, or diabetes.
Causes of Yeast Infections
Women tend to contract yeast infections because there are vaginal changes such as antibiotics, steroid use, sperm, menstruation, pregnancy, and diabetes. Another cause for vaginal yeast infections is birth control pills while infections are more common post menopause.
Weakened immune systems can induce candidal infections throughout the body and possibly life threatening since the body’s organs are at risk of infection.
Yeast Infection Symptoms
Women may find a discharge that is cheesy white in color and texture along with itching and a strong order. Infants and adults with thrush will find patches of white on top of a red splotch or base on the tongue, palate, or somewhere else in the mouth.
Home Remedies
For vaginal yeast infections you can treat with over-the-counter meds such as:
1. Monistat-Derm or Monistat Vaginal
2. Vadistat Vaginal
3. Femstat
4. Femizole-7 or Gyne-Lotrimin
THRUSH
May be treated with Nystatin ( an antifungal agent) by rinsing and maintaining proper oral hygiene. Sterilize whatever you may use in a child’s mouth after use. Make sure you thoroughly clean your dentures after each use and use proper oral hygiene.
Diaper Rash
Clotrimazole based lotions or creams may be applied to skin infections. You should keep the affected area as clean and dry as possible.
