The Hypnotic Effect of Advertising and News Reports on Smokers

The Hypnotic Effect of Advertising and News Reports on Smokers I’m a hypnotherapist. I have helped many, many people stop and remain non-smokers. But the challenge is getting harder and harder and I just realized why. Smokers are told over and over that it is hard to quit . Not just hard, but almost impossible! The withdrawal symptoms and side effects from stopping are listed in graphic, horrific detail. Surprisingly, these hypnotic suggestions are not made by the tobacco companies. It is made by those who want you to buy their product to aid your stop- effort. They say things like “Smoking is the hardest addiction to stop” therefore, buy my product. “The side effects and withdrawal symptoms of quitting the habit: are horrendous” so you need my product. “It’s almost impossible to stop ” and if you don’t have my product, you’ll never be successful!

This is compounded by news stories talking about the harmful effects of and how near-impossible it is to quit. With the issue being on the ballot in several states there is increasing news coverage on the harmful effects of and the difficulty smokers have in quitting.

If you do a search on the internet of products available to help you stop the habit you will find these statements and many more:

“_____________(product name) naturally eliminates the insomnia, tension, irritability, weight gain, nervousness, and fatigue and other uncomfortable even painful cravings and side-affects of nicotine addiction.” “The ingredients in ____________ have been proven to improve your mood and your ability to carry out your daily routine, decrease symptoms such as sadness, hopelessness, worthlessness, exhaustion, and poor , increase circulation to your brain and other parts of your body, and may exert protective action on your nerve cells.” “Insomnia… tension… irritability… weight gain… nervousness… fatigue… these are just a few of the uncomfortable and even painful symptoms most quitters experience. Just one or two of these is enough to have most people crying “uncle” and racing toward their hidden “emergency” pack of cigarettes. Once that happens, all hope of quitting is lost.” “Many people are afraid to quit because they know it’s a difficult challenge. Nicotine is an extremely addictive substance, and some feel as addicting as cocaine and heroin. Far too many people have tried to quit, and failed, because of its highly addictive nature. Do you think that these people would be interested in a method that is cig-arette.com/stories.html” target=”_blank guaranteed to work?” So with these ideas in your mind, how easy do you think it is for the to make a decision to quit? How much product do you think you’d have to buy and apply or ingest before you felt you would be safe from those side effects? Don’t let yourself be hypnotized by the media and companies that want you to buy and buy and buy. If you want to quit, begin now with positive self talk. “I can quit easily and end the habit once and for all.” “Stopping the habit will be as easy for me as it was to start.” “I can remain relaxed and focused while stopping the habit.” “I am stronger than nicotine and the habit.” Then decide what method is best for you – from “cold turkey” or hypnosis or a patch or a medication – and get started with stopping. You can do it.
