For more severe cases of outbreaks, oral antibiotics could be prescribed. These antibiotics act to reduce the infection of the P. Acnes bacteria and thus reducing the inflammation. Since this type of medicine is an antibiotic, it is wise to follow the prescription strictly to avoid the risk of having the bacteria becoming antibiotic resistant.

Oral contraceptives can be used as a long-term treatment. What they do is suppress the sebaceous gland that produces oil for the skin. This will reduce the chances of getting clogged pores which causes .
