10 Minute Plan for New Moms to Get Fit
October 17th, 2008 by admin | Filed under Uncategorized.Every new mom knows how hard it is to lose the baby weight when there’s no time for exercise. You can barely find time to take a shower; forget about working out! Believe it or not, there will come a day when you can squeeze in that shower and once that day comes, you’ll know it’s ok to start your fitness plan.
If you can’t afford a gym membership or there’s no good child care program at the gyms in your area, how do you find time for fitness? If you don’t want to wait for dad to get home so he can babysit while you workout, here are some creative options for moms to get their 10 minutes of fitness in every day.
First, it’s a good idea to start slow for 10 minutes at a time since you are recovering from child birth. Your body is still getting used to motherhood especially if you had a c-section. So make sure you get your doctor’s okay before starting any new workouts.
Any good workout routine includes cardio and strength training. Studies have shown that 10 minutes at a time can be just as beneficial as a 30 to 40 minute workout in terms of calories being burned. It’s the consistency that makes it work.
Schedule 10 minutes a day at least once a day in the beginning and work your way up as you see fit.
Put baby in the bouncer, put on some music and dance. You’re by yourself so don’t be shy…get moving and dance! Baby gets exercise, too and you’ll have fun while doing it. You may even get beyond 10 minutes of cardio.
If you have a mall nearby and you crave social contact, put baby in the stroller and walk around the mall. See if you can find other moms in your neighborhood who want to join you. Try to arrive right when the mall opens so that you can walk pretty fast without bumping into crowds.
When fitting in strength training, keep a set of light weights in an obvious and accessible place in your living room so that you can pick them up anytime you have a free moment. Take the opportunity to do floor work such as push ups, squats and lunges when you’re watching TV or cooking. Yes, while you’re waiting for the water to boil, do a set of lunges!
Remember that it’s important for you to make time for yourself. Having a child is a demanding occupation and you need to refuel and energize whenever you get the chance to stay healthy in your mind, body and soul.
