What Really Causes Acne

Even though acne is a very common problem and has been affecting millions of people from every culture for centuries, there still seems to be no single very effective way to get rid of acne forever. While acne may have many possible triggers like dandruff and others, it may actually be caused by a combination of factors like a hormonal imbalance, stress and an overloaded excretory system ( liver, skin and kidneys comprise the excretory system).
But that is not all - certain medications may cause acne too. If you have acne and have been on medications, then you might want to consult your doctor.
In women, acne may be caused by factors like menopause, polycystic ovarian disease, irregular menstrual cycles, pregnancy and even some birth control pills.
While a range of factors may cause acne, there are some that make acne worse. Excess coffee, too much sun, oily and fried foods, dandruff and others may actually exacerbate acne.
Eating a lot of fresh fruits, raw vegetables and nuts and cutting down on spicy and fried foods may be a good thing to do when you have acne.
There has also been a lot of speculation about the relation between dairy products and acne. Some believe that hormones in milk may make acne worse.
And dandruff seems to accompany acne. While this may not be a coincidence, the reasons are not yet very clear. By getting rid of dandruff, you may be able to reduce the frequency of acne breakouts.
When it comes to controlling acne breakouts, adopting a healthier lifestyle may help - a diet rich in fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts, free from spicy foods and dairy, lots of physical exercise and meditation. This may go a long way in reducing existing acne and controlling breakouts.
