Exercise helps to lose body fat while maintain the amount of muscle that you have. If you lose muscle your metabolism will slow down and if you return to the pre-diet eating habits, your slower metabolism makes it very easy to regain your weight.
However despite awareness for the need to exercise, many people find it hard to get started. How many times have we got ourselves inspired to be physically active but eventually come up with excuses to just get moving.
Let us deal with the common obstacles:
* “No time to exercise”
One way to overcome this excuse is to schedule exercise in your calendar like any other appointment. When you write it down it becomes a commitment that must be fulfilled. If time is really a barrier, you can increase your physical activity in small ways like taking the stairs instead of elevator, parking furthest, or walking for 15 minutes during lunch break. Going to the gym is not the only way to get your exercise.
* “Exercising is boring”
Boredom happens when activities are repetitive and continuous. Your mind will begin to wander and become less focused on your goals. You can overcome this by doing different types of exercise. Variety is key in any exercise program. You can schedule to run for 20 minutes and then go on the treadmill or skipping for another 20 minutes.
* “I need to lose weight first”
This happens when you are overweight and self-conscious about your body. You feel embarrassed to be seen in exercise clothes at the gym. So you give excuses to not exercise until you have lost a bit of weight. If you are feel discomfort at being seen, there is no reason to not exercise at home, in the comfort of your home, using treadmill, skipping rope, or stationary bike.
* “I do not like exercising”
This is a real barrier, many people really do not like getting into some formal type of exercise. Still there is no excuse. The goal really is to achieve at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity. You can add it up if you consciously move around in the course of the day like walking, taking the stairs, playing actively with your children, running on treadmill while watching tv, taking the dog for extra walk, riding the bicycle to your friend’s house instead of driving.
Now that you know how to overcome your own excuses, there is no reason not to get that bit of exercise on a daily basis. Ultimately it will fulfill your goal to lose or maintain weight and live a healthier lifestyle.
