You’re Better Than That
May 5th, 2009 by admin | Filed under Uncategorized.Have you ever noticed something?
It seems to me that whenever we compare ourselves against others (in any facet of life); we tend to focus on similar people around us.
Let me explain.
Let’s say that you’re 35 lbs. overweight, you don’t watch what you eat, and your idea of a workout consists of twisting off beer caps.
So, let’s say that one day, you finally think that you need a way to lose weight and get in shape (what took you so long?).
First of all….congrats! You are on the right track.
Of course, when you think about it, and you start thinking about the food you may have to give up, or the time spent exercising, or the extra effort it may take to cook your own meals, or how you don’t want to start a new health and fitness challenge in your life….
And then, you start hearing that voice……
That all too familiar voice……..
“Susie is about the same weight as me and she looks healthy enough.”
“Johnny is overweight and has high cholesterol, but he still manages.”
“Bobby always seems to get sick since he gained all that weight, but it’s nothing serious.”
Red Alert! Red Alert!
I can see it coming a mile away………
YOU are trying to talk yourself out of making the best change you could possibly do for yourself.
You’re taking the easy way out.
Well, let me be the first to tell you…..
YOU ARE BETTER THAN THAT!
There,
That needed to be said.
In fact, let me give you a deep, dark secret about this subject.
Are you ready?
Because if you follow this secret, you can skyrocket your success to new heights!
Here it is…
NEVER compare yourself to people who are in the same boat as you.
Want to know why?
Because you will ALWAYS find a reason that you are a little bit better than they are…
Which in turn means that you’re A-OK…
Right?
Wrong.
Comparing yourself to others who are in your same position will likely lead you nowhere.
Instead, focus on someone who is BETTER than you.
That’s right.
And it doesn’t have to be someone who is a fitness model, in “perfect shape”, etc.
Right now, just focus on someone a LITTLE better than you.
Maybe they eat better, exercise more, or are more consistent.
It really doesn’t matter…just focus on trying to take that next step (no matter how small it is).
And then, when you achieve it (and you will)…you can focus on the next group who operates just a little better than the new you.
And so on, and so on, and so on.
My friend, if you follow this simple little secret………the sky is the limit!
It all goes back to taking those little steps to success that I keep talking about.
So, always keep challenging yourself to be better than you are…never talk yourself into saying you’re OK where you’re at.
Always focus on taking that next step, conquering that next goal, proving yourself to be better than you were one week ago, two weeks ago, etc.
That, my friend, will certainly make you better than you ever have been.
I’ll talk to you soon.
