How to Get Rid of Head Louse – Proven Tips That Work

March 2nd, 2010 by admin | Filed under Uncategorized.

You are probably already familiar with what a head louse is since you are reading this.. :) However, just for the record, a head louse is a nasty little parasite that needs blood (preferably human) to survive. They are known to man for at least a thousand years.

They can live approximately for 30 days on thy human body, where they have access to blood, but away from the human body they only survive for 24 hours. Another big problem is that they are laying eggs approximately 3-5 per day, and after they have hatched, the young female louse can lay its own eggs after 7 days. They spread form one host to the other mainly through sharing of hats, caps, towels, brushes etc.

After researching a bit here are a few tips that have been proven to work.

- Castor oil has been very effective. You apply it on your hair and where a disposable shower cap over night. In the morning you wash your hear once or twice until the castor oil is gone, and so should the lice. Be sure to comb your hair carefully to make sure there are no nits left. a plus is your hair should look great after this treatment!

- an old trick we overheard at our local drug store… use petroleum jelly (better known as Vaseline) saturate the head with it, and again, wear a disposable shower cap overnight. next morning, wash the hair of… should repeat a couple of times for best result.

- We have heard many people having success with mayonnaise. It is not as sticky so it is much easier to use.. Still, it should be applied in the evening and a shower cap over night would keep most of the mayo of your pillows.. :) wash out next morning….

We really hope that the above tips have given you some help to get rid of that nasty head louse!
