Yoga in Practice: The Impact of Yoga Teachers on Society - Part 2

September 4th, 2011 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Now, let’s cover the next issue of Anti-Aging and Yoga. With regular Yoga practice, your health will be the best it can be. Joints are lubricated, muscles are toned, bones have to bear weight in strengthening postures (asanas), and internal organs are massaged. This activity also aids the immune, digestive, and elimination systems.

However, the physical aspect of Yoga is often considered to be the lesser of the three main aspects, when compared to the mental and spiritual aspects. Yoga styles - such as, Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga, and Jnana Yoga, offer much more in relation to the spiritual and mental facets of Yoga

Selfless service, or Karma Yoga, is the ability to give and help others without expectation. You give and forgive people because it is right to do. If good things happen to you as a result, this is fine, but you do not seek rewards for giving.

Jnana Yoga: Union by knowledge – requires a Yogi who is pure of heart and the intelligence to find the “real truth.” The real truth may not be “politically correct.” This is especially true when history is most often recorded by the victors.

Meditation creates rational thought and is one of the keys to Jnana Yoga. This will also aid you in your connection to spiritual health. Meditate on God long enough and you will realize our petty human differences are an illusion held together by the ego.

The multitudes of religions that worship God are worshiping the same Supreme Being. It does not matter if you call this God, Allah, Brahman, Jehovah, Yahweh, or something else. However, this is truly ironic when we choose to kill others in the name of God.

Therefore, let’s get back to other ways that Yoga teachers and Yoga practitioners have changed, and will continue to change, the world. It is by becoming living examples of tolerance and non-judgment. If all you do is display loving kindness, forgiveness, and mindfulness to others, you are a living example of integrity.

Yoga teachers have the ability to influence humankind toward world peace on a small scale. When you are kind to others, you set a chain reaction into motion. Loving kindness is contagious and makes the world a better place.

Much like the counter-culturists of the past; Yoga teachers and Yoga practitioners do not have to operate within the confines of a system. A social worker or school teacher may feel like, “their hands are tied by the system,” but Yoga teachers have much more freedom to change the world - one person at a time.

Beauty and Botox - Face Forward Tips for 2006!

September 2nd, 2011 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Did you know that BOTOX injections are one of the most popular procedures in today? In fact, Botox injections far out number breast augmentation and rhinoplasty ( on the nose), as the most preferred aesthetic surgical procedure?

As you may agree, in western culture attractiveness is closely wedded to youthfulness. The appearance of wrinkles on the face is a source of for millions of women and men.

The search for a miracle drug to help us appear younger presently fuels a multi-billion dollar beauty and cosmetic industry.

The related industries of weight loss and health are just as robust. There is stiff competition between beauty companies constantly trying to sell youth and beauty in a jar.

If you have the money you can opt for the more invasive (and ostensibly more effective) procedures to help you look younger. This where BOTOX followed by its more permanent cousin, plastic surgery may fit the bill.

A nutritious and balanced , accompanied by a rigorous exercise regimen can make your body look years younger. Unfortunately there’s no such workout to tighten your face.

Your face starts reflecting the passage of time the soonest, and most visibly. Studies indicate wrinkles appear on our skin as early as the age of 27.

If it is our face, which betrays our age the first, no wonder it the focus of so much . This is why we want age-defying intervention.

BOTOX, as of now, appears to be the answer to some people’s prayers. Younger and firmer looks seem to be just a few small injections away.

BOTOX is actually short for Botulinum Toxin Type A. It is a highly toxic substance and one of its milder side effects is food poisoning.

It is actually a protein complex, which is produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. What is used in is an injectible form of this toxin.

This form of the toxin is purportedly sterilized and purified.

Some consider BOTOX a poison. They feel this way because it is injected in small doses under the skin. It is reported to work by deadening the underlying muscle, preventing any further movement and thus smoothening out the skin.

BOTOX is said to interfere between muscle and nerve interaction. Some feel small doses of this chemical effectively prevent the release of acetylcholine by the nerve cells.

This neuro-chemical transfers signals to muscles, determining their contraction and relaxation. When injected into selected muscles, BOTOX stops them from contracting.

Therefore, any present frown lines are ironed away. In fact, within a week they become almost invisible.

In the April of the year 2002, the FDA approved the use of BOTOX injections as a treatment for the reduction of frown lines. Since then, it has come to be regarded as the fastest growing cure in the country.

Keep in mind that the FDA cautions against using Botox more than once in 3 months. Also it recommends that the lowest possible effective dose to be used in a session.

There are other, more permanent, options available – if you are inclined towards . Procedures like an eyelid tuck (blepharoplasty) and a bow lift (also called a forehead lift) last about 30 to 90 minutes.

They are outpatient operations, so you can leave for home the same day. Another option is the face lift (or rhytidectomy) – a slightly longer operation which can go on for 2 to 4 hours.

Patients are advised to stay overnight at the clinic. Although none of these procedures can reduce wrinkles, they very distinctly tighten up a sagging face by literally cutting away any extra bits of facial skin. The recovery period can last from 7 days to a month depending upon the extent of the operation.

However, at the end of it you may be rewarded with a much younger and firmer facial appearance.

Given the risks associated with Botox facial treatments like Rejuvinol™ deserve a serious look. We have heard that Rejuvinol™ available from Amazon and BODeStore.com” target=”_new www.BODeStore.com is a product that uses helps give a younger appearance by appearing to smoothing out wrinkles. It’s makers say that it contains the universally recognized Argireline® from Lipotec S.A. The active ingredient in Argireline® is acetyl hexapeptide 3 (AH3), a deep penetrating, powerful amino peptide that helps to relax the intensity and frequency of facial muscle contractions. It just may be a less expensive and invasive way to put your best face forward.

Four Dieting Myths Exposed

August 30th, 2011 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

We are surrounded by dieting myths; many of which have grown up over the years until they have become, more or less, universally accepted. So, by way of making a start, here are four of them put well and truly into context!

Diet food is boring and you can’t eat the food you like
One of the main points about healthy dieting is that you get to eat from a wide range of really good food, including some of the best tasting desserts around. However, you’re right, there is a down side.

If your present food is unhealthy food laden with fat and sugar or other undesirables, then you won’t be allowed to eat it every day -simple as that! Seen from this point of view, a will appear restrictive, although most diets now have enough variety to stop them from being boring. If you find that you really are limited in what you can eat on your then perhaps you should look at another plan.

And, of course, you can have a day off. Most sensible plans accept that you need time off and allow you to eat what you like sometimes.

The point of this is to allow you to enjoy the sort of food that you used to eat and which, to put it simply, isn’t good for you. The long term idea is that you will slowly get used to the food and want your old way of eating less and less.

I like to look upon diets, not as restricting what you can eat, but rather like holidaying in a different country. The food you used to eat is still there, it’s just a bit harder to get at, while you are now surrounded by a table spread with a whole host of new food that is both delicious and tasty and just waiting for you to try. The difference, of course, is that you never need go home!

Some of this new food you will like and some of it you will not like so much, but you will soon develop some new favorites and these will, in future, become your foods of choice.

If the thought of adapting to new food worries you (and it’s a perfectly normal worry to have) take some time out before your begins for a dummy run of a month or so to try the sort of food allowed and see how you get on. If you then feel that the is really not for you, don’t give up; look around and find another that caters more for your taste and have another trial period.

The reality of healthy eating for most people is that they end up really liking the food but sometimes this does take a week or so.

If I skip a meal I will lose more weight
The theory is good – eat less calories and you’ll – but the reality is a little different.

Your body is not stupid, it knows how many calories it needs to keep you at your present weight and it knows how much food you need to eat to get there. Skip a meal and you will simply eat more throughout the day to catch up and often, paradoxically, you can find yourself having eaten more calories at the end of the day.

However, doing the opposite, strangely enough, can help with a . If you eat more often but eat less at each meal then your body usually feels full and you will find it easier to keep to a calorie controlled .

So don’t skip meals and don’t try to deliberately eat less then you are allowed, your is designed to give you sufficient calories so that you will feel full but still .

I only need to – exercise is optional
This is true up to a point but you will miss out on a lot. Exercise complements a by firming muscles and making you look and, equally important, feel so much better about yourself.

It is now being realized what an important part just being active plays in dieting and so you will be encouraged to make an effort each day to do something active like, for example, walking. Stronger exercise is still needed but needs to be done less frequently.

So consider exercise as being as important as controlling what you eat and get out and have a good time doing it while knowing that it will help build a firmer and slimmer you!

I’m a good dieter, I choose ‘low fat’, ‘low sugar’ food
Most certainly diets should be low in saturated fat and low in sugar but be careful how you choose.

Food manufacturers know that we want food that is low in fat and low in sugar but they also know that the fat and the sugar are what make the food tasty. Inevitably, if they take the fat or the sugar out then they have to add something as a substitute to ‘put back’ the taste.

Unfortunately, what they add might be just as bad for you as what they have taken out. Become a label-watcher and make sure you know what the ingredients mean on the back of a packet or tin and know, too, what to look out for.

This is not an easy area but it is one where it pays to spend a little time learning what you should be eating. Of course, to help prevent this problem, you could increase the amount of fresh food that you buy even if this means shopping more often and spending a little more time in preparation.

So, don’t be mislead by the food fallacies out there; dieting and eating healthily should be enjoyable and should provide a wide variety of food to keep you entertained and looking forward to your next meal.

Brazilian Waxing: Brilliant or Barbaric?

August 9th, 2011 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Spring is here and summer is on its way. And that means that women are flocking to salons in search of a solution for those horribly embarrassing hairs that are always threatening to escape your bikini line. A surprising number of women are turning to a solution popularized on “Sex & the City,” known as Brazilian waxing.

If you’re familiar with what Brazilian waxing entails, you understand what “surprising numbers” means. If you’re not familiar with the term, you probably want to read on before you make your reservation …

What’s the Big Deal?
Quite plainly, a Brazilian wax is a salon hair-removal treatment (trust me, you don’t want to try this at home) where warm wax is used to remove unsightly pubic hair from your nethermost regions – front and back! Typically, with a Brazilian wax, you’ll be left with a small strip of hair (sometimes referred to as a “landing strip”). So, if you’re looking to go completely bare, you might want to clarify that in the beginning. This version of the wax is often known as the “Hollywood” or “Sphynx” Wax.

If you’re curious as to why anyone would pay someone to cover their most private parts with warm wax and then rip it off, read on about the advantages and disadvantages of having a Brazilian wax.

There Are Advantages?
Across time and distance, I can still hear a lot of women shrieking, “There are advantages?” And actually, there are – depending on who you ask. Some of the most commonly cited advantages are listed below (and don’t be surprised if you see the polar opposite statements on the other side of the fence).

• No more embarrassing escaped hairs

• It’s not as painful as you’d expect (okay, okay, quit snickering)

• No more razor burn or bumps

• You lover will most likely find the new look sexy and arousing

• You can have a wax done for as little as $25.00

• The pain is said to lessen with each waxing, and

• Many women report an overall improvement in confidence, especially regarding cleanliness and odor control.

Drum Roll, Please…The Disadvantages
It goes without saying that a Brazilian wax is going to come with some inherent disadvantages. And the most obvious is the pain. Have you ever had your eyebrows waxed? If so, imagine the procedure done on an area about ten times larger and infinitely more sensitive.

And there’s another kind of discomfort that some find a bit more traumatic than physical pain. Chances are, you’ll have to quite literally let it all hang out. And for the best end result, you may wind up finding yourself in some rather odd poses. Needless to say, the whole experience may leave you feeling silly and self-conscious, if not a little traumatized. Plus there are other, more minor drawbacks to consider…

• Some people may still experience bumps or irritation

• Since you have to wait 10-14 days in between waxings, you’ll still have to suffer through stubble.

• It can also be hard to find a salon that offer Brazilian waxes in smaller, less urban areas, and

• You might have to spend as much as $100.00 (possibly more) to have it done!

Think It’s Brilliant?
If you’re appalled at the thought of this procedure, your next move is clear – you mentally file Brazilian waxing away in your brain as a great way to get back at someone you really dislike. But what should you do if you’re still not scared? Your best bet is to do your homework (you’re off to a great start); then, start looking around for a good salon. Here are a few other things to think about:

• The credentials and experience of the person who’ll perform the procedure.

• Whether you’re really ready to go bare below. You might want to take it slow. Start with a standard bikini wax, then a Brazilian, and then maybe warm up to the Sphynx.

• Don’t try to trim or shave before waxing to “pretty up.” In order to work, your hair must be longer than ¼”. Let them take care of it – it’s part of what you’re paying for!

• To get the most out of a waxing, find a quality hair growth inhibiting lotion. You’ll be able to go much longer between sessions!

So, what do you think - brilliant, or barbaric?
