Headache and Migraine Relief - Causes and Natural Solutions

I have suffered from headaches and migraines for as long as I can remember. My dad has told me that when I was a baby learning how to talk, one of the first things I learned how to say was that my head hurt. I grew up taking pretty large amounts of acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Motrin) regularly for the pain. While I really dislike putting drugs in my body, when it comes to intense pain, I find myself turning to whatever brings relief.

The problem with headaches and migraines is that it is hard to identify why they happen. Sometimes, it is obvious; your head is stuffy from sinus pressure or you fell and bumped your head pretty hard. But most of the time, they just creep up on you over a few hours until you finally reach the point where any type of movement, noise, or bright light feels like a hammer smashing against your head.

The years of taking pain relievers have caused me liver damage. I’m not blaming them, because I have chosen on many occasions to put them in my body, and I’m sure will again do so in the agony of the moment. They help, most of the time, to ease the pain, and sometimes we just need to get to the next moment in order to move on.

But they don’t always help. Truth be told, I haven’t found anything, drug or natural, that completely removes my migraines every single time. However, I’ve found that by having an arsenal of different potions, one of them is bound to work for whatever kind of headache I happen to be having at the moment. Maybe one of these will help you.

Peppermint oil can be used in many ways.

Peppermint oil #1
The simplest is to just put a few drops in the palm of your hand, cup it over your mouth and nose, and breath in deeply several times. This helps the stuffiness.

Peppermint oil #2
I generally apply the peppermint oil directly to my scalp, right where the pain is. Wherever it hurts the most is where I apply it. But I also will put some in the palm of my hand and dab a little on my fingertip to apply to above my eyebrows, behind my ears by the mandible, and all over my neck.

Be careful to not get it in your eyes or use that dabbing finger to rub your eyes later. If you do get some in, simply get out a little bit of vegetable oil and gently apply it to the burning area. It will stop the burning almost instantly.

Peppermint oil #3
I know people who have gotten rid of a headache by a single drop of peppermint oil on the nape of the neck. It hasn’t worked for me, but I’ve met too many people it has worked for to be skeptical.

Peppermint oil #4

Mix a drop of peppermint oil in with your shampoo and then again in your conditioner. The lather helps the oil to disperse easily over your entire head. The tingle feels so good that I don’t want to rinse it out. This feels nice even when you don’t have a headache, but if you do, it feels just heavenly.

Inhale it: rub on tip of nose, breathe deeply. Apply neat to forehead and temples, cheekbones, across bridge of nose, and around ears.

Roman chamomile oil
Apply to each of the points of the face and neck, basically wherever you feel sinus pressure. This has never helped me, personally, but we’re all made differently.

Low Blood Sugar
Check your blood sugar. If it is between 60 and 70, you can develop a light headache. If it is between 50 and 60, you are more likely to have a full blown headache, feel weak, tired, and irritable. My best friend gets a headache whenever her blood sugar drops. As far as I’m concerned, she is lucky, because as soon as she eats, her headache goes away.

Migraines and Liver
Using the infinitevitalheart.com/migraines_and_liver_disharmony.htm theory that migraines are related to the liver, target the liver & head areas on your feet. Apply a few drops of Valor essential oil all over your feet, paying special attention to the back of the big toes, rubbing it in hard. Rub a drop or two of M-Grain on the back of your big toes as well as on the nail bed. The brain point is on the big toe.

The liver point is on the right foot. If you find the center of your foot (not including toes) and move out towards the part you step on, that’s where you rub. I rub a drop of M-Grain here as well, rhythmically rubbing it in for a few minutes. It’s easier to rub in with a few drops of olive oil.

Then the M-Grain on the Liver 3 point, which is on the top of the foot along the way from between the big toe and toe next to it all the way up to the ankle. Run a finger between those bones, rubbing the oil in.

Chemical headache
Toxins from chemicals, such as paint fumes, can cause a headache. Breathing in an essential oil, such as peppermint oil, can help to restore balance. Diffusing the oil is particularly effective here.

Dilated Blood Vessels
Caffeine constricts the blood vessels. Sometimes just drinking some coffee or Coke can help a migraine.

Other things to try:

Fresh wheatgrass juice

Fresh celery juice

Thieves essential oil blend
Apply one drop to your thumb and press on the roof of your mouth

Lavender oil & peppermint oil
Apply a drop of lavender oil to your temples and neck. Layer peppermint oil on top of the lavender. Sometimes the combination is stronger than an individual.

Grapefruit oil
By itself, it does nothing for me. However, when I layer it on top of other oils, it intensifies the effect of the other oils.

Certain illnesses.

As we mentioned earlier, there are many fatigue tiredness reasons, meaning causes so this list is not exhaustive. On the other hand, these are some very common reasons. Therefore, the first step in trying to combat fatigue is to take a personal inventory and begin to reduce them. Most often, more than one factor is involved. Moreover, it’s important to note that when your body is lacking good nutrition many of these fatigue tiredness reasons (causes) can even take a bigger toll as to how tired you feel.

So, when should you seek medical help?

If your fatigue worsens or persists in spite of home treatments.
If your fatigue is sudden or persistent, despite adequate rest.

To boost physical and mental energy…

Eat a healthy, well-balanced . In addition, focus on increasing fruits and vegetables, whole grain foods, low fat dairy products and lean meats.
Reduce the amount of high fat, high sugar, and high salt foods.
Limit your alcohol and caffeine intake.
Eat breakfast. A carbohydrate-rich breakfast is a good choice such as cereals or whole grain bread. Breakfast refills our energy stores.
Eat small amounts of food throughout the day and choose carbohydrates and protein for those mini-meals. This will help keep sugar and energy levels from plummeting.
Drink eight-8 ounces of cool, refreshing, pure, filtered water daily. When your body is water deprived, you’re energy is deprived. Therefore, water fights fatigue.

Lifestyle Suggestions To Help You Combat Some Of Those Controllable (Non Medical) Fatigue Tiredness Reasons

Refresh yourself with . The body needs 8 hours of rest.
Step up fun. Laughter is an excellent energy booster.
Reduce stress and deal with anger. Learn or find the time to relax since, as we all know, a hectic lifestyle is exhausting. Anger is also an energy zapper. You may want to try meditation, yoga, aromatherapy, listening to music, reading a novel, or even just talking on the phone.
Exercise. Do you know that a 10 minute brisk walk can energize you for 2 hours? Needless to say, increasing physical activity, especially brisk walking increases energy levels.

Healing Your Body’s Energy: Medical Intuitive Insights on Adrenal Fatigue

Many of my clients speak of having fatigue, sleeping problems,
weight gain, and depression. They say that their mind feels 100
years ahead of their body. Sound familiar?

Many of these clients have what is known as Adrenal Fatigue or in
extreme cases, Adrenal Exhaustion.

Your adrenals are small Brazil nut size glands which are on top
of your kidneys. They are, in reality, two very different glands packed into one.
The center of the adrenal gland makes adrenaline (epinephrine) and it is governed by the autonomic nervous system.

The outer part of your adrenal gland, which is called the cortex, makes many additional important hormones for your body.

Some of the most important are:

Cortisol: When you are under stress your adrenal glands will increase
the making of cortisol to help your body respond to stress. Cortisol does raise your
blood sugar, and blood pressure, as well as reducing your immune response. When your
cortisol becomes low; you may have , fatigue, immune deficiency,
and a high degree of and sensitivities.

Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S): DHEA is the most plentiful hormone produced by the brain. How DHEA works in our body is not understood fully. When your DHEA levels are low, you will feel dragged out, and feel you have very low energy.
DHEA-S does decline with age, and does drop more rapidly with chronic fatigue patients.
Often bringing your DHEA level to a middle range for a 29 year old will help considerably.

Aldosterone: This is the hormone that governs the balance of salt and water in your body.

Estrogen and testosterone: These two hormones are manufactured in significant amounts by your adrenals. About half the testosterone in a woman’s body is made by her adrenals.

Your adrenal gland’s job is to quickly transport all of your body’s resources into the
“fight or flight” mode. They do this by rapidly increasing the making of adrenaline and other hormones. When healthy, your adrenals can rapidly increase your heart rate and blood pressure, and open your body’s energy stores for immediate use. Your senses will sharpen, and your body becomes very alert.
A healthy stress response will have a priority over all of your metabolic functions. A healthy stress response will not last very long. However, in the modern world, we have lives of constant stress. Over work, toxins in our air, water and homes, poor nutrition, all of these create great stress in your body/mind. With all these challenges, the body will create a demand on your adrenal glands.
The Damage of Cortisol

When cortisol production in your body is functioning normally, it will enable your body to meet the challenge of stress by converting protein into energy, and helping to release glycogen. It also will help to reduce inflammation. This process will work fine for a short time, however if it continues, cortisol will begin to wear your body down.

A high level of cortisol in your body will wear down muscle and bone. Your body’s ability to heal itself will slow down, as well as the replacement of cells. Cortisol will take over the other biochemicals your body uses to make its other hormones.

Adrenal fatigue may also be a factor in fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, early and other conditions.

In my medical intuitive work, the energy pattern that I see with
a person who has adrenal fatigue is that of survival, one who is
not truly connected with their physical life on the Earth. The
person is reacting as if they are under attack and are leaving
their physical body behind. With intention and focused effort,
their adrenals can be restored to health.

Your first step is to have a complete physical from your doctor. This will rule out any disease or other factors. My adrenal fatigue clients have seen great improvement by following these steps:

Decrease carbohydrates and stimulants in your . Add a minimum of 800mg of EPA, and 600 mg per day DHA, which are essential fatty acids. They are most easily found in fish oil capsules

Work on reducing your stress. Walking and being in nature is always healing. A focused energy practice such as Hatha Yoga, Tai Chi, or Qigong is very helpful.

Persons with more severe symptoms, such as
adrenal exhaustion, usually need a more intensive program. These may
include phosphorylated serines, low-dose DHEA, ginseng
and other supplements.

However, niacinamide and inositol hexaniacinate does not cause the “niacin flush.”

In addition, large or megadoses of niacin supplements can cause abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, lightheadedness, ulcers, and intense itching. Liver damage and a rise in blood sugar (glucose) that mimics diabetes are also signs of an overdose of niacin.
