Non-Invasive Options to Lipo

March 5th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Most people skip over the fact that any type of surgery is invasive, including plastic surgery. If invasive surgery concerns you, there are non-invasive options to lipo.

Non-Invasive Options to Lipo

Plastic surgery has become very popular in the last 30 years or so, and more and more you see items in the news and specials on TV regarding the benefits of having done. One of the most popular surgeries performed by plastic surgeons is liposuction, which removes unwanted fat from areas of your body. You might be tempted by what seems to be an easy way to , but there are options available to you.

Two of the most important options are dieting and exercise. No doubt that statement just met with a groan, but it should not. You should try eating right and using targeted exercise to rid yourself of your problem areas. The human body does not have the ability to rid itself of fat selectively, but the overall impact of exercise and on your body can be seen fairly quickly. Diet will also help to create an atmosphere within your body that is conducive to losing weight, and therefore, losing fat. Muscle gain, in particular, will speed up your metabolism, which burns more calories through the day.

Diet pills, which hope to promote your body’s own weight loss abilities can be effective in some cases as well. It’s important to note, however, that drugs with “lipo” in the name will not work on targeted areas the way that the procedure does. Remember, many solutions on the market have not been approved by the FDA.

Other options include spa treatments such as seaweed wraps and “cellulite massages”, which promise to help break up fat cells and remove them from your body. Unfortunately, most of these techniques are not proven to work, and if they do show some ability to make your body look better, it is short-lived. Doctors are also working on a theory that ultrasound waves can break up the fat cells under your skin, and then your body will be able to reabsorb the cells within three weeks. Doctors who are working with the ultrasound option believe that they will be far less damaging to the tissues in the body than invasive procedures. This, obviously, would represent a medical revolution and be very popular with many of us.

Many people pay lip service to the fact that any surgical procedure, including liposuction, is invasive. You should seriously consider the fact that any surgery carries risks. If that scares you, and exercise are probably the way to go.

The Secret to Achieving and Maintaining Your Perfect Body Shape

March 2nd, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Isn’t it exciting when you personally decide to take the step to make a commitment?

It’s even better when you have an Action Plan and a coach to be there with you.

Quite recently I made a commitment to lose some excess weight using the Perfect Body Shape - Glycemic Awareness Action Plan. I have tried a number of diets like the Adkin’s , the Scarsdale and even the cabbage soup . They all worked, but only temporarily. They all seemed to be missing one or more essential traits to create a lifelong partnership between the the and the dieter. Eventually, and every time, I returned to the state of which I had come from, sometimes even worse.

A couple of years ago I had the opportunity to watch the movie “Super Size It!” and was totally disgusted with the fast food industry. Although I have never been a ‘fast food junkie’, I’d have to say that my biggest and most problematic phase of weight gain occurred when I was in a travelling sales job and ate at the fast food places to fill the spot. I went from 215 lbs to 260 lbs in less than 2 years and felt horrible for it. I was at risk for Type 2 diabetes, my back was sore all the time and my feet were miserable trying to carry the excess tonnage.

So, what’s the answer? Who do you believe? Is this for convenience or is there a commitment? In order to succeed there are a few parameters that I believe are the main components of any successful program. There may be more but these are

1) Nutrition: The must contain a list of foods from all of the major food groups. Our bodies need the elements that are provided by the spectrum of foods nature offers, including lots of pure water to flush our systems of the toxins that are stopping us from progress. ps… fast food is not a major food group

2) Education: There are a lot of books out there suggesting this and that but what we really need to understand is what has gotten us to the point at which we are at. If we are fat and sloppy now when we use to be trim and athletic, what has changed? Why are my kids fat? It’s never just one thing but rather an accumulation of poor decisions that have long term repercussions. It’s also a matter of understanding which types of foods contribute most to the ease of weight gain and finding the proper solution for your individual situation.

3) Exercise: Always a key component, exercise is the catalyst in increasing your rate of fat burning and weight loss. Exercise can be effectively incorporated into any program and staged to accommodate most current states of physical fitness. Walking itself can do wonders.

4) A Plan… with a Goal: Having a plan with no goal or a goal with no plan on how to achieve it makes little sense, yet we fall into this trap all the time. Perhaps, subliminally, we do this in order to avoid the commitment. Many of us just don’t get it but we all have experienced the results of such omission… little or none.

5) Commitment: A change can’t be “temporary”. Dieting needs to be a lifestyle adjustment with parameters to stay within. The attitude of dieting to lose the weight and then going back to the same old eating habits that got us there in the first place is absurd. But people like you and me have done it many times too often.

6) A Coach: Probably the most underrated of the 6 factors because the the coach can help you with the nutrition, education and plan plus be a reinforcement factor for your commitment.

This time around I am reinforcing my commitment and using the buddy system with recent business associate, Dr Cindy Meays. Her “Perfect Body Shape Program”, complete with food ideas, supplements, exercise and coaching seems to make a lot of sense. From what I understand, Dr Cindy’s program focus’s on Glycemic Awareness that provides the education and an Action Plan to put one on-track with coaching to reinforce my personal commitment.

So, here’s my starting point. I’m 52 years old, 240lbs at 5 feet 9 inches tall. I did a lot of body building and power lifting over the years and despite my current shape, I still carry a significant amount of . My goal is to lose my gut and love handles, reduce to approximately 200 lbs and stay there.

Interestingly enough, this program suggests throwing away the bathroom scale and measure your progress in lost inches. The logic behind this is that in changing ones body shape in this program, you are likely to gain some while losing the fat. Muscle is more dense than fat so even though you won’t appear to be losing a lot of weight, the fat inches will be melting off. This is not dissimilar to the regime put forward in Bill Phillips “Body for Life” where his emphasis is on both and rigorous exercise. “Perfect Body Shape” doesn’t appear to be as regimented as “Body for Life”. I have plenty of opportunity to walk and do other physical exercise at my day job. I may also set up the weights again although the heavy lifting will be avoided.

So, there it is. We will be starting this week and the initial program is 90 days. We will be keeping you up to date on the procedures and progresses we make each week by posting on Cindy’s blog. If you want to join me and others in this promising program, check out your Body Mass Index first at Dr. Cindy’s cindy.perfectbodyshape.com Perfect Body Shape. If you can commit to 90 days, then she will guarantee that you are successful. You can’t get better than that!

Diabetes Symptoms In Type 1 And Type 2 Diabetes

February 27th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

In diabetes, the symptoms can vary depending on whether a person has type one or type two diabetes.

Before diagnosis the symptoms may be more obvious, but after treatment and the glucose levels are more stabilized, symptoms will often reduce or go away.

However, type 2 diabetes can be sometimes so subtle that there are no noticeable symptoms, and hence is only diagnosed with a blood test.

In this article, let’s look at the symptoms can be present in diabetes, both type 1 (insulin dependent) and type 2 (non insulin dependent) diabetes.

The symptoms on type 1 diabetes

In type 1 or insulin dependent diabetes, the symptoms are serious and very severe when the illness starts.

The symptoms include the following:

1. Excessive thirst and excessive drinking

2. Excessive urination, otherwise known as polyuria

3. Loss of weight

4. Excessive hunger and eating. Notice how it’s a condition where despite eating more, there’s weight loss.

5. Feeling unwell, getting infections

6. And type 1 diabetes can present as ketoacidosis. In this state, the sugar levels are very high, there’s acidosis in the blood, and even collapse and coma.

So when type 1 diabetes starts, it’s a very serious condition that requires medical attention right away. Treatment is needed in type 1 diabetes and can’t be reversed with ‘lifestyle changes’.

The symptoms on type 2 diabetes

The symptoms in type 2 diabetes include the following:

1. Increased thirst and drinking

2. Increased urination

3. Recurrent infections such as skin infections eg fungal or bacterial amongst others

4. Long term complications of diabetes.

Long term consequences of diabetes include heart conditions, deteriorating eye health, kidney disease, peripheral vascular disease (blockages to arteries in eg the legs causing pain in the legs during walking), and peripheral nerve disease.

Many people at risk of type 2 diabetes are also overweight and have other associated conditions such as hypertension and hyperlipidemia.

So as you can see, there are various ways in which diabetes can present. In type 1 especially, the symptoms are serious and can be life threatening. It’s important to seek medical care immediately.

In type 2 diabetes, it can present with similar symptoms or sometimes more subtle symptoms.

In both cases, it’s important to seek the advice of your doctor about how to manage and treat the condition.

How To Stay On Your Weight Loss Diet

February 27th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Uncategorized

Everyone I know who has ever tried a weight loss program always starts with the best intentions and lots of motivation. I’ll bet you know someone who is at this exact stage of their new weight loss program right now (it might even be you). So how do you maintain that motivation and keep it going after the initial excitement and motivation wears off? What will keep you going on those days when everything else goes wrong at home, and at work, and you find yourself wondering why you’re putting yourself through this miserable program in the first place?

The answer to effective and lasting weight loss isn’t a new pill, it’s not a special food, and it’s not about cutting out this fat or that carb. The answer is and always will be social support.

No matter what kind of weight loss program you are following, social support is the single biggest factor in sticking to it for any real length of time.

Anyone who has tried to stick to a knows exactly what I am talking about and how hard it is to get through a week without some major social pressures to break you down like:

Business lunches

Indulging with a friend who needs a jumbo cookie dough ice cream sundae to forget about a recent fight with their spouse (maybe you need to forget about something that day too)

A night out drinking with your friends – nuff said

The movies – honestly, who goes to the movies and doesn’t get at least popcorn and a drink. And now they make deals out of them with some other sort of candy thrown in.

Holidays – Take your pic, almost all of them involve excessive amounts of food.

There are plenty more, but you get the picture. How often are you faced with the decision at the end of a busy day to either go to the gym, or go for a cheese burger and fries and finish it off with a double fudge sundae!

The only way to get through all of this on a regular basis is with support, and the more the merrier. Think of it as your weight loss “team”. Get as many people on board with your goals as possible. Every time you feel yourself slipping off the wagon, call the team in for support and get yourself back on track. It helps if they are pursuing similar goals, but anyone can provide support. You just need one or two people who you can trust, that know you well, and will back you up when you’re faced with a choice between the Sunday all you can eat buffet brunch or a cardio and conditioning workout.

The more people you recruit to your “team” the better chance you have of sticking to your program. This how all the celebrities get it done (however they usually can afford to pay for their “team”), and how all of my clients who have been successful have managed to stick to it. It works for them and it will work for you too.
